Everton agree £4.2 million deal to sign “strong” former England international

Everton have moved to strengthen their squad with a versatile addition, reaching an agreement with Lyon for former England international Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The Toffees have been looking to add further depth and have now returned for a player they previously tried to bring to Goodison Park.

Everton Agree Maitland-Niles Deal

Everton have agreed a £4.2 million deal to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Lyon, according to an exclusive from Sky Sports News’ Mark McAdam.

The 29-year-old is in the final year of his contract with the French club, allowing Everton to secure his services for a relatively modest fee.

Maitland-Niles offers considerable versatility, having operated both at full-back and in midfield throughout his career. That ability could prove particularly useful to David Moyes as he looks to build greater flexibility into his squad.

The former Arsenal academy graduate has previously attracted praise from Arsene Wenger, who described him as “strong” during his time with the Gunners.

Everton had attempted to sign Maitland-Niles previously, but have now finally managed to get a deal over the line.

The former England international is now set to begin a new chapter on Merseyside, with his experience and ability to cover multiple positions giving Moyes another useful option heading into the season.
