Everton have made a steady start to the 2026/27 campaign under David Moyes, collecting nine points from their opening five Premier League matches.
Two wins and three draws have given the Toffees a solid foundation, although their summer departures have left the club with work to do to ensure they have enough depth to maintain their progress.
Everton’s recruitment team are already looking ahead to January, with the opportunity to strengthen Moyes’ squad potentially proving important in the second half of the season.
The Merseyside club have been linked with a midfielder who previously played in English football and has since impressed in Turkey.
Everton Targeting Gabriel Sara
According to Turkish outlet Webaslan, Everton are interested in signing Galatasaray midfielder Gabriel Sara, with the Brazilian attracting attention from the Premier League ahead of the January transfer window.
Newcastle United are also reportedly keen on the 27-year-old, having failed to secure his signature during the summer. The Magpies are expected to revisit their interest when the market reopens, while Everton are also preparing to discuss a potential deal with the Turkish giants.
Sara has made an encouraging start to the current campaign, registering two goals and two assists in his opening appearances for Galatasaray. His performances have helped maintain his reputation as a creative midfielder capable of contributing in the final third.
The Brazilian is no stranger to English football, having spent two seasons with Norwich City before moving to Turkey. His experience in the Championship could make a return to England appealing, although Everton would face competition if they decide to formalise their interest.
For Moyes, Sara could offer another option in the middle of the park, providing creativity and an attacking threat from midfield. Everton have several players capable of operating centrally, but adding further quality could help the manager manage the demands of a long Premier League season.
The Toffees’ interest is also understandable given the need to build a deeper squad following a summer transfer window that left them short in certain positions. Any potential move, however, will depend on Galatasaray’s valuation and whether the clubs can agree on a suitable fee.
With Newcastle also monitoring the situation, Everton may need to move decisively if they want to bring Sara back to English football. January remains some way off, but the midfielder is already emerging as a name to watch ahead of the next transfer window.
