According to reports in the Spanish media, Tottenham are planning a raid on Newcastle in January for Spanish left back, Jose Enrique.
Web publication Fichajes suggests that Spurs would be willing to pay £8m in order to secure Enrique’s services, to “consolidate their position among the elite of British football”.
It is believed that Harry Redknapp has long been an admirer of the Newcastle defender, seeing him as the “pillar” of the Magpies’ back line.
The Spurs manager is also hopeful that a few signings to bolster his defence will “relieve the defensive responsibilities of Gareth Bale”, allowing the Welshman even greater freedom to go forward and spearhead Tottenham’s attack.
Given Bale’s continuous contributions of vital goals, most recently his well-taken finish at the Emirates which inspired Spurs to a memorable 3-2 victory over their rivals, fans will certainly feel that the more freedom Bale is given to go forward, the better.
As such, Enrique may prove a welcome addition to the ranks at White Hart Lane.
