Before Wednesday’s defeat at Southampton, Crystal Palace fans in the Tavern were reeling following a run of four straight wins in the Premier League.
The defeat has put Palace back among the relegation scrap but our landlord believes Big Sam Allardyce has the nous to save the Eagles from relegation this season.
Alongside this, the pick up in Palace’s form has been monumental in changing the momentum of their league season but despite seemingly winning the relegation dog fight, our resident Eagles in the Transfer Tavern are less than impressed with some of the performances they have seen from certain players.
Now, our landlord doesn’t mind the opinionated individuals spouting nonsense in the Tavern from time to time but the Palace fans have really got to him, with some of the players they have targeted for criticism this season.
It has led to him spending time in his beer cellar after hours, casting his eye over match footage and statistics just to prove the Palace fans wrong and from past experiences, our landlord is hardly ever wrong.
With all that said, here are the most common TWO players that Palace fans have been targeting as scapegoats sending our landlord into a fit of rage….
Christian Benteke
With 11 goals and 2 assists in the Premier League this season, Benteke has scored some vital goals in order to help Palace’s cause this season.
With seemingly little to no service to the big Belgium international, our landlord believes that Palace fans need to be laying off Benteke – especially following some comments that they wanted their top scorer to leave the club.
In their defence, the Eagles in the Transfer Tavern say they are frustrated with Benteke as they know he possesses a lot of talent, they just expect more from him.
Wayne Hennessey
Regularly criticised by the Eagles in the Tavern, our landlord believes Hennessey has actually done a decent job following the injury to first choice keeper, Steve Mandanda earlier in the season.
The Welshman has received a lot of flack in the past few seasons but managed to retain his place much to the frustration of the Palace, but there is no question he has reacted to this criticism with goalkeeper coach, Martyn Margetson revealing Hennessey has lost a lot of weight since January 2016 resulting in an upturn in form.
