It’s been a tough time for Manchester United since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, and our landlord here at the Transfer Tavern knows its not been the easiest of times for the United faithful, either. Going from great amounts of success in all competitions to 6th place isn’t the best but they’ll get back we are sure!

When a teams under performing you’ll often see the manager blamed and he’ll be your regular scape goat but when you have the ‘Special One’ in charge, it is not often he gets blamed! It took a long time before he was blamed for the downfall of Chelsea before his sacking.

With Mourinho and Manchester United when the success is low, the blame is often shifted to the players and it is often the same player that is used by either the club or the media as a scapegoat for their problems.

So who are they you ask? Well lets take a look at the the TWO Manchester United players who are always seemingly seen as scapegoats…

WAYNE ROONEY

Probably the clubs biggest scapegoat in recent years, let alone in the Mourinho era!

When you are a player of Rooney’s calibre it is easy to see why he can be often blamed for his sides faux pas.

It doesn’t help that he’s a captain and gone from a regular goalscoring striker to an all round midfield player who wants to play up front but can’t seem to be considered anymore.

It’s a bit harsh that he’s been blamed for a number of years now for the downfall of the club, given just how important he has been for much of his tenure.

PAUL POGBA

This season Paul Pogba has been blamed fairly frequently at times for his rather underwhelming displays

His massive social media presence and lack of quality on the pitch probably haven’t really helped his cause, with the Frenchman a regular in the newspapers in the Transfer Tavern.

With the big price tag and with so much of the club’s hopes on his shoulders, it is rather easy to see why he perhaps isn’t at his best yet. Still very harsh to use him all the time as a scapegoat at the club as it’s more than just him on the pitch!

Indeed, his excellent performances are rarely recognised – so it seems as though Pogba can never win.
