The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been making their voices heard as they want to see Nathaniel Clyne start against Manchester City in the club’s huge Champions League clash on Wednesday. The former Southampton man is yet to play a game this season after requiring surgery on a back injury.
Whilst the Liverpool fans propping our bar up all agree that when fit Clyne is the club’s best option at right-back, the fans are debating whether giving Clyne his first game of the season in such a big game is a good idea. Liverpool have been stuck relying on youngsters, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez in the right-back position in Clyne’s absence and between them, the pair has impressed on the right side of Liverpool’s back line.
The last time Liverpool faced City they became just the second team to beat them this season as they ran out 4-3 winners at Anfield with Joe Gomez starting at right-back. This time around, it’s expected that it will be Alexander-Arnold in the eleven, despite his struggles on the weekend against Crystal Palace. The Champions League is Liverpool’s last chance at silverware this season and in Manchester City, they face one of the favourites to take home the trophy. Klopp will know his side need to be on top form if they’re to beat City to a spot in the last four and he’ll be hoping that Clyne is back to full match sharpness sooner rather than later.
You can read our resident Reds’ Clyne verdict here:
To all the people who I had good conversations about TAA or Clyne for Wednesday it seems TAA expected to start. I expected the same Klopp rarely ever gives up on his players. It’s the right decision with Clyne having played 0 games so far. I am sure we will see Clyne soon

My starting XI, via @thisisanfield
I hope Emre Can can play, Milner has been outstanding in the CL so far so I'd definitely start him. Trent had a tough game against Palace so I go for Clyne, and Matip over Lovren.pic.twitter.com/b172pMdV7c

The 2 best teams in britain going at it!
Don’t start Trent on Wednesday. Great lad, but the way Sane is at the moment we’ll be 4-0 down at half time. Start Milner/Clyne, Robertson, Matip and Van Dijk. #LFC— Jurgen Meister (@SS_LFC) 2 April 2018
Hope @LFC start with Clyne at RB against City on Weds, fully fit or not. Sane will terrorise Alexander Arnold. Even Milner will be a better option filling in. #UCL

Of course I'm all for Clyne starting if he's fit enough and should start we need all help we can get, first half of the season TAA was brill recently a few bad performances doesn't mean he's terrible

Oh and no I'm not saying he should start against Man City, i do think Clyne should be put in unless Gomez is back, but 100%I'd start TAA in the derby
