Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are desperate to see a strong summer for their club – particularly after a woeful January window.

The Reds really should have signed some players in order to maintain their title challenge but instead they kept the squad as it is and have duly paid the price.

Only the top four is an ambitious aim left for the Anfield outfit now, then, and our landlord reckons they’ll need to reach it if they are to sign some top players.

Indeed, according to The Sun, the Reds want to battle it out with Manchester City for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang when the window opens once again in a deal that could cost £40 million.

Our landlord thinks that could actually prove to be a very smart bit of business, though, and so, with that in mind, here’s the potential front three for Liverpool going into 2017/18…

RW: Sadio Mane

Mane has been a revelation at Anfield this season and will surely keep his place in the side.

His pace has transformed the Reds’ attack at times and they sorely missed him as an outlet during AFCON last month. Our landlord can’t see him being replaced going into next season and so, if he is, the Reds will have signed some player to take his spot in the starting line-up.

ST: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Suddenly, Liverpool’s attack looks rapid and very frightening indeed.

Whilst the Reds have been devastating at times this season they’ve also been stilted, too, with Roberto Firmino not what you’d call an out-and-out striker. Aubameyang, meanwhile, certainly is and would tear opposition Premier League defences apart with his movement and lethal finishing.

LW: Philippe Coutinho

Since his injury towards the end of 2016 against Sunderland, Coutinho hasn’t been the same player.

He still looks slightly under-cooked, in truth, but there can be no doubt that when he is on song he’s got the potential to rip it up in the Premier League. As the games stretch out again after January he’ll have more chance to get up to speed and will almost certainly be in the side come kick-off for 2017/18.
