Henderson out, Ox in: The Liverpool team Klopp should pick to beat Man Utd on Saturday

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating their side’s game with Man Utd this weekend. The Reds have been on a fine run of form, but as we’ve seen already this season and in years past, form often goes out the window when a big game comes around.

They certainly don’t get bigger than games between Man Utd and Liverpool. The two have a rich and storied history, and though both have fallen upon harder times as of late, games are still always exciting and full of drama.

This iteration will be no different. As noted, Liverpool have been doing well recently, but so have Man Utd. The Red Devils beat reigning champions Chelsea a few weeks back, and so Jose Mourinho knows what it takes to beat a top Premier League side.

As a result, Jurgen Klopp will be under a lot of pressure to get his team selection right, and who he picks to start the game could prove to secure or, indeed, lose the game for his team.

There are certainly a few decisions for him to make, but here is our pick for the Liverpool team that Klopp should pick to dominate Man Utd on Saturday…

GK – Loris Karius

Loris Karius was given a chance by Jurgen Klopp, and he has grasped it with both hands.

Another stellar performance could leave the German boss reconsidering his summer plans, as Karius has looked very good indeed.

RB – Trent Alexander-Arnold

The surprise package of the season as far as Liverpool are concerned.

Alexander-Arnold is going to make it very tough for Nathaniel Clyne to get back into this team when he’s fit.

CB – Virgil van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk has been a revelation at Anfield.

It’s no surprise that their form has improved since his arrival.

He’ll need to be on top form against Romelu Lukaku and co.

CB – Joel Matip

Joel Matip provides fantastic quality in defence when he’s on form.

Granted, he has been inconsistent at points – but his experience makes him the perfect candidate for this game.

LB – Andy Robertson

Another surprise package in this team.

Robertson found minutes hard to come by earlier this season, but he has emerged as a fantastic option for Jurgen Klopp.

CM – James Milner

This is a huge game for Liverpool, and so experience and leadership will be needed.

With Jordan Henderson continuing to divide fans, perhaps he needs to sit this one out. Milner will become the leader of this team, if that happens.

CM – Emre Can

Though his future is uncertain, his form has been anything but. Jurgen Klopp will have no doubts about what he can provide.

The German is crucial to Liverpool’s system, offering a brilliance mix of defence and attack.

CM – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was rested in the week, but he needs to return this weekend.

He has been a revelation in the midfield since moving to Anfield.

LW – Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane has found his form again recently, and it has come at just the right time.

On his day he is unstoppable.

ST – Roberto Firmino

Roberto Firmino is finally getting the credit that he deserves.

He has turned into one of the Premier League’s best strikers this season, and he’ll be required to hold up play and get the players around him involved against a rigid defence.

RW – Mohamed Salah

Liverpool’s star player.

Salah is a top attacker, and he has been Liverpool’s match-winner on several occasions this term.

You wouldn’t put it past him to score yet again.
