Rangers kept up their good form and a hold on second place with a good win over Hearts at Ibrox on Saturday, spoiling Ian Cathro’s party with the Jambos.
It was a big win for the Gers, who moved five points ahead of the Edinburgh side, as well as four points ahead of the chasing Aberdeen.
For the fans in the Tavern, it was nice to see their side once again scoring goals, and while Hearts made it easy at times, there were a number of impressive performances.
With the Dons having a game in hand, it’s vital Mark Warburton’s side keep up the good work they’ve embarked on to move back into second spot against Hamilton Academical on Friday.
As the typically frantic festive period gears up on the Gers, winning away at New Douglas Park is a necessity for Rangers.
Considering all this, here’s the 4-4-2 formation to do exactly that.
GK: Wes Foderingham
Didn’t have all that much to do at Ibrox on Saturday, though there’s little doubt Wes Foderingham provides the Gers with a strong base from which to build between the posts.
RB: Lee Hodson
Hasn’t looked back since being handed the starting berth at right-back and has particularly impressed in big games against Hearts and Aberdeen.
Quickly becoming a vital member of this Rangers side.
CB: Rob Kiernan
Made a rare appearance on the scoresheet against Hearts, a strong bullet header which capped off a wonderfully solid performance.
Warburton’s lieutenant these days.
CB: Danny Wilson
Surely did enough to keep the returning Clint Hill at bay in the win on Saturday.
His ball-playing prowess is a wonderful foil for the aforementioned Kiernan.
LB: Lee Wallace
The skipper was in fine fettle against his former side on the weekend and seems to enjoy playing with Barrie McKay on the left side of this Rangers team.
Crucial in both directions.
CM: Jason Holt
Typically energetic, Jason Holt’s all-action displays as the deepest man in this midfield do not go unnoticed in the Tavern.
Never gives up.
CM: Andy Halliday
Where Holt runs around looking to break up attacks, Halliday’s clever distribution is a decent dynamic added to the engine room.
RW: James Tavernier
Looks to be flourishing in a more advanced role, with Hodson providing more of a solid base defensively.
A danger, particularly from dead balls.
LW: Barrie McKay
Finally notched a goal in the league this season for the Gers, after a number of poor performances blighted the early part of his campaign.
Links up very well with Wallace on the left.
ST: Joe Garner
Looks to finally be getting plaudits for his work in blue and he’ll hope his standing ovation-worthy display against Hearts can be carried into the clash with the Accies.
ST: Kenny Miller
Makes himself available at all time, and such is the clinical nature of his finishing, that can only be a good thing for Warbs.
