Newcastle manager Eddie Howe says the club will “act quickly” to secure their top targets in this summer’s transfer window.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Howe says Newcastle’s strength in the market is identifying their targets quickly and being ready to pounce on signings at a moment’s notice.
“My mindset is always the same when you come to this time of the year,” he said. “You want to act quickly because usually the best available options will move quite quickly.”
“If you’re too late to react, you can miss out on potential transfers that really could make the difference.”
“I’m sort of the mindset that you need to be ready in every moment. Whether that’s early, whether that’s late or whether that’s in the middle.”
“We pride ourselves on identifying our targets quickly. And then we have to act quickly and efficiently as a football club.”
Howe, Newcastle planning busy summer

Newcastle find themselves in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League next season. Currently in 4th, the Magpies are tied on points (66) with Chelsea and Villa but have a superior goal differential.
A win against Everton on Sunday will virtually guarantee a 4th place finish – barring a Chelsea romp over Nottingham Forest – and the club are expected to enter this summer’s transfer window with European football in mind.
Having also ended their 70-year trophy drought with a Carabao Cup triumph in March, they will be looking to go from strength to strength and build a squad capable of fighting on all fronts.
No longer plagued by PSR issues, Newcastle are said to be seeking reinforcements in all departments of the pitch.
Forwards Liam Delap of Ipswich and Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford, midfielders Jack Rudoni of Coventry and Harvey Elliot of Liverpool, and defenders Jorrel Hato of Ajax and Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace have all been rumoured to be of interest to the club.
Rumours of course go both ways, and several Newcastle stars continue to be linked with moves away from the club. Star striker Alexander Isak is the name on every club’s wish list with links to Arsenal, Liverpool, and Barcelona showing no signs of relenting.
Howe attempted to cool those rumours, saying Isak has a long term contract and is loved “to bits” by the club, but the interest will undoubtedly remain.
Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes are two other star names linked with big money moves away, while long serving striker Callum Wilson is out of contract this summer.
Sporting director Paul Mitchell could be in for quite the busy summer with both outgoings in incomings needing to be sorted out. Howe will be hoping for speedy resolutions in all cases.
