Liverpool supporters have been pretty buoyant in the Transfer Tavern in recent hours after seeing their team brush aside Stoke City 3-0 at the bet365 Stadium on Wednesday night, thus extending their unbeaten run in all competitions to seven matches.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the Potters off the back of slipping outside of the Premier League’s top four after drawing with champions Chelsea on Saturday, yet they got back to winning ways in emphatic style in Staffordshire. Sadio Mane’s fifth goal of the campaign gave the Reds a first half lead against Mark Hughes’ side, before Mohamed Salah netted a brace off the bench in the second period to seal a comfortable victory for the Merseyside giants, who in turn moved above Tottenham into fifth place in the table.
Consequently, there have been many jubilant Liverpudlians in the Tavern in the last few hours, although their mood is likely to change if a recent report from Bild is anything to go by, as they outline that manager Klopp is on the shortlist to become the next Bayern Munich manager.
The 50-year-old took over at Anfield back in October 2015 after leaving Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund the previous summer, and he has since won 61 of his 121 matches in charge of the Reds, and indeed took them back into the Champions League by finishing fourth in the Premier League last season.
And with his side performing reasonably well both domestically and in Europe this term, Klopp’s stock appears to be rising all the time, and reports suggest that he is part of a shortlist to take over at German champions Bayern at the end of the season.
And that is unwelcome news which is sure to concern our resident Liverpool fans, who have seen Klopp make a difference to their side in his two years in charge at Anfield.
Landlord’s verdict: Bayern Munich sacked manager Carlo Ancelotti earlier this season after their indifferent start to the campaign, and Jupp Heynckes has been placed in charge until the end of the current campaign.
Yet who takes over at the Allianz Arena come the summer very much remains to be seen, and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly one name on the list given his excellent exploits at Borussia Dortmund between 2008 and 2015, as well as his reasonably impressive two-year stint at Anfield.
Thus, what the Reds go on to achieve this season could well have a significant bearing on whether the 50-year-old is indeed interested in the Bayern job, as could the club’s ambition come the summer to really push for the Premier League title.
Nonetheless, the longer Bayern go without naming Heynckes’ successor, the more Liverpool fans will be made to sweat over Klopp’s future on Merseyside.
