Our Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern are having an unusual season compared to what they’ve been used to in recent years.

A lot of Spurs’ success in recent years is down to Harry Kane becoming one of the most lethal strikers in the world. This season, however, it seems to have all caught up with the England man, although he’s still finding the net on a regular basis, the burden of being the only striker to score the goals at Wembley must be weighing heavy on his shoulders.

Pochettino brought in Fernando Llorente from Swansea City on deadline day to give Kane a little cover and back up, though the Spanish striker has only found the net once in 17 games and made many of the appearances have come late on in the game as a substitute.

In order for Spurs to really elevate themselves to the next level and be in contention for the Premier League year in, year out. They must bring in a top quality striker to go toe-to-toe with Kane for the number one striking spot, our landlord takes a look at two potential attackers that Pochettino should be looking at this January…

Wilfried Zaha

The Crystal Palace forward has really grabbed the attention of some of the big boys, after being in sparkling form whilst helping Crystal Palace turnaround their season in recent weeks. The former Manchester United signing didn’t quite make the cut at Old Trafford for whatever reason and opted for a return back to his boyhood club.

Well, this seems to be paying off tenfold, with a run of outstanding performances, the Ivory Coast international is looking back to his dazzling best.

A move to Tottenham would be considered a step up in levels and Pochettino would fully encourage the forward to go out and express himself as he is currently doing at Selhurst Park.

Daniel Sturridge

The Liverpool man is reported to be seeking a move away from the club in order to gain vital first-team minutes after finding himself falling down the pecking order and ultimately he’ll want to re-find his sharpness ahead of the World Cup year in 2018 in a bid to impress England boss Gareth Southgate.

A fully fit Sturridge is a rarity of course recently but if Pochettino can get over that hurdle, he could have on his hands the old deadly striker from back in Liverpool’s most successful season in recent years, when the forward linked up with Luis Suarez to torment defences all season long.
