The Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Transfer Tavern are aiming high next year, after getting a taste of the good stuff over recent seasons. Indeed, having experienced the high life, our local Lilywhites don’t want to go back to the relative doldrums. 

Many in the pub believe it’s about time Spurs upped their levels in the Premier League and in Europe, despite all their heroics of late. The White Hart Lane outfit have certainly flirted with winning the Premier League for a couple of seasons now, but have always crumbled at the last knockings.

Although this campaign has been largely disappointing so far, they are not far off a top-four place as they enter the last few months of the season. Indeed, Mauricio Pochettino would love to win the English title but, like every manager will have high aspirations on reaching the holy grail of the Champions League.

If this is to happen, Spurs need some serious reinforcements in key areas of the pitch to truly take the step up to Europe elite status. With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at TWO players that could aid them in the quest for Champions League glory next season…

Riyad Mahrez

Having signed Lucas Moura in the January window, Pochettino would be silly not to even it up on the flanks and bring in wantaway midfielder Riyad Mahrez. The Algerian has been Leicester City’s best player since they won the Premier League and can dribble past defenders, create many chances and score a goal out of nothing.

A more direct player like Mahrez could be the turning point for Spurs and someone to add that sprinkle of stardust.

Nabil Fekir

The Frenchman is enjoying his best season to date with Lyon. The attacking centre-midfielder has been at his deadliest playing through the middle of the park, scoring 20 goals and 6 assists in his 30 games in all competitions so far would certainly help Harry Kane out.

Fekir’s stock has risen immensely this season with his performances being up there with some of the best in Europe and Pochettino could unearth a real diamond in the rough in the Premier League next season.
