West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern have made it clear they’re expecting top-class forwards to arrive this summer and they seem pleased to have missed out on one name.
The Hammers were amongst the clubs heavily linked with the services of Sunderland veteran Jermain Defoe, as the England international is set to leave the relegated Wearside outfit when his deal expires this summer.
34-year-old Defoe now seems set to join Eddie Howe at Bournemouth after West Ham boss Slaven Bilic didn’t sanction a deal, which wasn’t really surprising given reports indicate the veteran was seeking a contract worth £20m over three years.
Whilst missing out on targets is usually a cause for frustration, West Ham fans seem thankful that this deal did not go ahead and they’ve taken to social media to support the decision made by the club- whilst condemning Defoe’s excessive demands in the process.
Our landlord has agreed with all the comments he’s reading and he hasn’t managed to get his head around why Bournemouth would sanction such an expensive deal.
Defoe will earn £20m over 3 years and get a signing in fee with Bournemouth. Happy Bilic said no to that.

That really is total greed. Football is a horrible business now. Loyalty. Couldn't even spell the word.

Same here. There is a limit to how many players in their twilight years an ambitious club can have…..
