Wolves could not have asked for a better season in English football’s top flight following their promotion from the Championship.
They currently sit seventh in the Premier League table on 39 points, picking up some fantastic results against some of the division’s big boys.
And a lot of that success has been down to the business the club did last summer, among other factors, with Joao Moutinho playing his part since arriving from AS Monaco.
Heading into this campaign, a lot was said about Ruben Neves, who has certainly not disappointed in the middle of the park.
However, it has been his compatriot Moutinho who has really stolen the show with his consistency and some really great performances.
In midfield, simply put, Moutinho has been a boss. His passing range has been sublime — though anyone who watched the 32-year-old at Monaco and Porto will not be surprised — combining it with his vision to devastating effect.
Meanwhile, from dead-ball situations, Moutinho has also proven to be a threat be it from a corner or free kick, with his delivery just one of many things he has brought to the table.
All in all, the Portugal international has been a superb addition to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad. And at the £5m (BBC Sport) Wolves paid for his services, there is probably not a better value-for-money signing that was made last summer.
Moutinho has been a bargain and one that has helped Wolves to virtually overtake every Premier League team outside of the top six in just half a season.
