Sadio Mane’s scintillating form has brought into question his value over star player Mohamed Salah, who has been uncharacteristically absent in recent weeks.
It is no easy task criticising the work of the Egyptian genius who has continued the immense form of last season into the 2018/19 campaign; however a noticeable dip in form contrasted against an upturn in performances from Sadio Mane has got people wondering: ‘who is more important to Liverpool out of the two?’
When asked that question Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp weighed in on the debate. “Absolutely, yeah. He’s the man,” he said before the Fulham match (via Sky Sports Football YouTube channel).
“I think he does on the defensive side he does a real job for the team he makes thing happen; he’s brave good in the air he’s just so powerful and he’s a man in form. Every time he gets the ball you think somethings going to happen.
“Out of the two he’s the main man.”
The stats do not lie either. Where Salah has failed to score in his previous five appearances Mane has managed hoarded an impressive nine goals in his previous ten appearances.
Indeed, the real test of a players quality comes when they are faced with adversity.
Liverpool squandered their chances to fly ahead in the title race, and Salah is in part culpable for the team’s wastefulness in front of goal. Sadio Mane, on the other hand, has really taken to the challenge, injecting some much-needed guile into proceedings, and has consistently looked like their most dangerous player going forward.
Burnout is always a worry for players who have peaked their form, but the Senegal international looks like he is only just getting started – and this will come as very welcome news to fans who have watched their other star forward wilt into a feeble state.
