Rangers face a make-or-break fixture against Villarreal at Ibrox this week, which could define their season.
They currently sit in third place in the group in the Europa League, but in a group whereby first and fourth place are separated by two points, the picture could easily change come Thursday night.
Villarreal are currently struggling in La Liga, but top the group in Europe. However, they are there for the taking, particularly at Ibrox, and a victory may well catapult Rangers to becoming one of the leading teams in the tournament.
Rangers have won their last two Scottish Premiership matches with an aggregate score of 10-1, and looked to have bounced back from their disappointing loss to Spartak Moscow. What would have pleased manager Steven Gerrard the most over the past two fixtures is the form of his midfielder Scott Arfield.
The Canada international already has five goals and four assists in the Scottish Premiership this season, including three goals in his last two games. He looks to be the creative influence behind Alfredo Morelos that Steven Gerrard needs in order to get the best out of the Colombian, as well as being able to chip in with plenty of goals himself.
The 30-year-old’s form will fill Gerrard with a lot of confidence ahead of the visit from the Spanish outfit. Villarreal are a tough team to break down, and they do not often concede a huge amount of goals. Arfield will be fundamental in ensuring Rangers get the win, and in doing so establish his side as one of the contenders to win the competition.
