Charlton will be pleased with how their League 1 campaign has gone so far as they sit in the final play-off spot heading into December.
As a result, manager Lee Bowyer is likely to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window to give the club a boost in their pursuit of Championship promotion.
And one area Bowyer could look to reinforce is defence with the Charlton boss confirming earlier this month that he is desperate to bring a new left-back to the Valley.
“It is too soon to say what sort of players we will want to bring in elsewhere but we need to try to get a left-back, 100 per cent,” Bowyer told the South London Press and Mercury.
With that in mind, one name that the 41-year-old should be looking at is Liverpool’s Adam Lewis.
Lewis, 18, has yet to play competitively at senior level but has shown in the Reds’ youth teams he is on the right path, and Charlton could now be the perfect platform for the next stage of his development.
On the left flank, the left-back loves bombing forward with Liverpool legend and former youth coach Steven Gerrard describing him as the best at doing it out of the players in his age group.
“Going forward, I haven’t seen anyone as good as him [Lewis] at that age in terms of quality and what he can deliver in the final third,” the current Rangers manager told the Liverpool Echo last year.
Defensively, there is a long way to go for Lewis, which is understandable given his age. But overall, he could be a shrewd addition to Charlton’s squad and one to solve Bowyer’s left-back dilemma.
