The punters in the Football Transfer Tavern definitely think so…
Christian Benteke’s spell at Liverpool was nothing short of an unmitigated disaster.
After impressing for Aston Villa, saving the club from certain relegation on a number of occasions, Benteke finally got his big money move to Liverpool in 2015 – and he was expected to get even better playing in a team with superior players.
However – the very opposite happened. Benteke failed to cement his place in the Liverpool first team, and spent much of his time on Merseyside sat on the bench.
This lead to his departure over the summer, and the Liverpool fans in the Tavern were touting it as a master stroke; but is the Crystal Palace striker beginning to prove Jurgen Klopp wrong?
He has made an excellent start to life under Alan Pardew, having already picked up 3 Premier League goals for the impressive London outfit. What’s more, his contribution to Crystal Palace’s squad has been impressive – helping to provide a crucial link between midfield and attack.
His good performances haven’t just been limited to outings for Palace, however, and last night the ex-Liverpool striker showed once again what Jurgen Klopp is missing out on.
Benteke scored what is now officially the quickest goal in World Cup qualifying history – gaining the plaudits of not just the Crystal Palace fans – but football fans worldwide.
Our landlord thinks that Jurgen Klopp made a huge mistake letting him go – and last night he proved it once again.
