Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are desperate to see their club’s season get back on track this weekend as they host high-flying Tottenham at Anfield on Saturday.
The Reds have had a torrid 2017 so far in what’s been a month or so of stark contrasts to those towards the end of 2016.
Indeed, they are not scoring as freely as before and are looking out of ideas early on in matches – hardly ideal for a club of their ambitions.
Things need to change this weekend, then, and Jurgen Klopp and his men will need to be at full flight if they are to beat Spurs Saturday afternoon.
Our landlord reckons the German boss faces some tough selection calls, too, with a clear shake-up needed ahead of the game and so, with that in mind, here’s two players the main man behind the bar thinks the Reds need to sit on the bench…
Emre Can

Can has been hammered by our local Reds in recent weeks and so it would surely make sense for everyone involved to see him drop to the bench.
To be fair, he hasn’t played well at all and so the criticism isn’t untoward with him making the Reds’ midfield look slack and slow. Georginio Wijnaldum would be ideal to come in for this game, then, and probably stay there for some time.
Simon Mignolet

Neither of Liverpool’s ‘keepers have covered themselves in glory this season but our landlord reckons it’s time to go with Loris Karius for the rest of the season and have done with.
He can’t see a future for Mignolet past this season and with his latest mistake coming last time out against Hull City the Reds might as well play Karius and try and get his confidence up over the coming months. The Belgian may have played his last game for the club.
