The Arsenal supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern would certainly have been delighted with their team’s 5-0 thrashing of Southampton at St Mary’s in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Despite making a number of changes to his starting XI, two goals from Danny Welbeck and a hat-trick from former Saint Theo Walcott set the Gunners on their way to a routine victory, and some of the fringe players that had been given an opportunity in the side didn’t let manager Arsene Wenger down – the fans standing at the bar enjoyed their Saturday night.

The likes of Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Rob Holding were two of the younger players that would have impressed the Frenchman, but others such as Carl Jenkinson and Mathieu Debuchy weren’t given their chance, throwing their futures up in the air – the former was an unused substitute and the latter failed to make the matchday squad, and the landlord wouldn’t be surprised if the out-of-favour pair left the Emirates sooner rather than later.

With the January transfer window slamming shut on Tuesday night, it’s not too late for more exits. Surely the defensive duo will be axed tomorrow…

Carl Jenkinson

After two seasons out on loan at West Ham United, the right-back would have hoped to have staked his claim for a first team spot on his return to Arsenal in the summer, but he has struggled for first team minutes – there is no doubt that the Gunners fans standing at the bar prefer the first-choice Hector Bellerin.

The 24-year-old has made just five appearances in all competitions – with just one of those coming in the Premier League – and it seems as though his time at the Emirates is coming to an end after he even failed to fill in for Bellerin when he was struggling with injury earlier in the season – the landlord believes it would be best for both parties if the north London outfit cashes in on him.

Jenkinson has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace during the January transfer window, and Arsene Wenger seems keen to move the defender on to pastures new before the deadline on Tuesday night.

Mathieu Debuchy

Like fellow right-back Carl Jenkinson, Debuchy could be set for an Emirates exit on transfer deadline day.
The Frenchman has made just 23 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal since joining them from Newcastle United in the summer of 2014, with his spell at the Emirates overshadowed by a number of injury problems – the supporters in the tavern can’t quite believe just how unfortunate he has been.

The latest came in his first appearance of this season against Bournemouth at the Emirates, where he lasted just 16 minutes before suffering a hamstring injury.

The 31-year-old is understood to have offers from France and Premier League clubs but he may have to prove his fitness first – he is certainly another name that the landlord would like to see off of the wage bill.
