“It’s so surreal”- Manchester United and Everton fans react as Wayne Rooney edges closer to Old Trafford exit

Wayne Rooney has been at Manchester United for years but finally, it looks like his time at Old Trafford is coming to an end.

Much to the delight of the Everton supporters lining the bar here in the Tavern, the England captain is edging closer towards a move back to his boyhood club, where he left in a £20million deal to join United as a teenager.

Rooney’s stock value at United has begun to plummet in recent months and the high-profile signing of Toffees forward Romelu Lukaku has pretty much ended any lingering hopes that he could have any sort of career left at Old Trafford.

But moving forward, he’s a man that will don the famous Blues of Everton once again and the player who once donned a shirt saying “Once a Blue, always a Blue”, looks to be heading back to Merseyside- much to the delight and disappointment of supporters alike.
