Our Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern are in a real state of shock at the moment after what happened to their team at the weekend.
The Citizens rolled up to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City on Saturday evening knowing a win would continue their title charge against a team that was seriously floundering towards the bottom of the league.
What happened, though, took everyone by surprise.
Leicester turned back time to last season as they blitzed City early on and had the game won after 20 minutes thanks to goals from Jamie Vardy and Andy King.
It was a sensational match to watch and, naturally, many called on Pep Guardiola to get some targets lined up in January if they are to win the league this season.
Certainly, our landlord thinks City need to do some business once the window opens and reckons these three La Liga stars would be ideal…
Iker Muniain
City need extra reinforcements out wide and Muniain would be a very good option to go for.
With the likes of Jesus Navas proving not good enough, despite playing a number of times this season, the Citizens need to look at replacements – good ones. The Spanish left footed winger is known for being able to take players on at pace and very rarely loses the ball so would be suited to Guardiola’s style whilst in being at Athletic Bilbao, he might be a cheaper player to go for.
Jose Gaya
The young left back is exactly what Pep Guardiola needs in his City team right now.
The Manchester club have been pretty woeful defensively at times this season and need some serious reinforcements to get them to the level the former Bayern Munich manager wants. Gaya would be much better than Gael Clichy or Aleksandar Kolarov whilst the fact that he plays for a struggling Valencia team means he could be up for a switch.
Aymeric Laporte
When you talk of good young defenders in world football right now, Laporte comes up a lot.
Whilst John Stones is a decent enough player at the back he’s shown a number of times he still has much to learn whilst the Frenchman already looks the finished article. He reads the game impeccably, won’t let anyone bully him and knows when to pass the ball or put his foot through it. This is the man City should build their defence around – not Stones.
