Upon his arrival as the club’s new manager, the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern were debating Jose Mourinho’s track record when working with young players.

With the Red Devils boasting a proud history in developing young players into first-team stars, it was one of the major factors that led many of our United supporting locals to doubt the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ prior his reign at Old Trafford.

Though the Portuguese is yet to wholly convince at the Theatre of Dreams, he’s shown a willingness to work with youngsters, heavily relying on the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard during his time so far.

So, considering the success of Anthony Martial (well, up until recently), perhaps the 53-year-old should look at burgeoning talents in the January transfer market to try and provide some youthful exuberance to his ranks.

Franck Kessié

As good as Michael Carrick is, the fact United only ever seem to perform when he’s in the team is indicative of United’s midfield struggles.

While Atalanta midfielder Franck Kessié isn’t a direct replacement for Carrick, he’s making a name for himself in Serie A with a series of commanding performances at the tender age of 19.

The power he, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera would boast in a midfield three would sure be a sight to behold.

Strongly linked with a move to Liverpool, pipping the Reds to USA international Christian Pulisic would be a huge move in two regards.

Not only stopping the Borussia Dortmund star from joining a rival, the Red Devils would be landing a teenager likely to dominate European football over the next few years.

A hugely talented winger, he’d be exactly the man to light up the Old Trafford crowd again.
