Mauricio Pochettino is becoming somewhat of a legend amongst the Spurs’ supporters in the Transfer Tavern. The Argentine has famously recaptured the form of numerous players that were cast aside under previous regimes.
With perceptible joy in regards to his prospering empire in North London, the locals here at the Tavern have been hoping that Pochettino will chop some members of his current first-team squad.
The Lilywhites recent form has brought some questions upon the depth of the squad available at his disposal. A recent injury to Harry Kane has weakened Tottenham’s overall progression which further highlights just what players are not required at the Lane.
After much discussions with our Tavern landlord, here are THREE players that Pochettino should consider chopping from his squad in the winter transfer window.
Tom Carroll
Carroll has spent far too many years out on loan and his improvements are still unnoticeable.
The young midfielder recently signed a long-term contract at the club, but the fact remains he is not good enough for Tottenham’s aspirations.
The central midfielder has been particularly valued for his passing accuracy and creativity. His style of play has drawn comparisons with former Tottenham player Luka Modric but to compare the duo in the same sentence is a mortal sin.
Vincent Janssen
Apparently it’s harder for strikers to settle into the Premier League, but Vincent Janssen is beginning to frustrate our Spurs regulars here at the Tavern.
Pochettino signed the Dutch forward from AZ Alkmaar this summer to provide competition for Harry Kane, but currently, Janssen isn’t fit to lace the boots of the Tottenham ace.
Janssen is a long way off spearheading Pochettino’s men to glory.
Kevin Wimmer
The Austrian defender has found himself frozen out of Pochettino’s plans recently with the expansive partnership of Alderweireld and Vertonghen.
Wimmer has provided the necessary cover when requested, but the young growth of Cameron Carter-Vickers has a lot of Tottenham fans discussing his chances of first-team football over Wimmer.
Wimmer has youth on his side, but not his passport, as the Austrian is expected to lose his place to the greater potential in Carter-Vickers.
