The Southampton fans in and around the Transfer Tavern are getting increasingly worried about the lack of transfer activity happening with their club as they bid to improve on their shocking performances last season.
Ever since letting Virgil Van Dijk leave the club to further his career at Liverpool, Southampton have made the mistake of not replacing the Dutchman. This error could well have proven costly considering the Saints only stayed up by three points in the end. Our punters would like to see Calum Chambers, who is valued at £12.6 million according to Transfermarkt, return to the club to fill Van Dijk’s void.
Chambers left St Mary’s Stadium for Arsenal back in 2014 but remains on good terms with the Southampton faithful and a move back to the club would certainly be welcomed by the club. The 23-year-old only managed 12 Premier League appearances last season as the Gunners stumbled to a 6th place finish.
Indeed, versatile Chambers was used in an array of positions by manager at the time Arsene Wenger and that ability is still very much a selling point for Calum Chambers as a player. The Englishman can play centre-back, right-back and also as a defensive midfielder, with Southampton of course already know
The Saints are desperate to improve on their almost disastrous campaign last season and bringing Calum Chambers back to the club is a move in the right direction for sure. At 23, Chambers still has a lot of time to further his game and that progress would be made easier at Southampton, with more opportunities to start on a regular basis.
