Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still buzzing after they saw their team reach a 20th FA Cup Final at the weekend, following a 2-1 comeback win over a possible United target Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs team.

Indeed, the Red Devils have vastly improved under Jose Mourinho in his two seasons in charge. However, recently our fans in the bar have been questioning if Mourinho is stuck in his ways, much like Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is.

The Premier League and football in general moves on every four to five years, that’s for sure. United legend – Sir Alex Ferguson was fantastic at adjusting with the times and keeping himself and the team at the pinnacle of change. Although Mourinho’s tactics have been questioned in recent times by many of our regulars, he has still churned out results against four of the biggest teams in the Premier League in recent months.

The United faithful are desperate to get back to the DNA of the club’s style of football, and Mourinho’s ability and guidance to be reactive more than proactive, as we saw against Sevilla and laboured performances like West Brom the other week, so it seems to be causing a stir. With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at why Ed Woodward should be looking at Mauricio Pochettino to take over the reigns in the near future…

Young and Hungry

No doubt Mauricio Pochettino has done an incredible job at Spurs during his time in charge there. Turning them from Europa League potentials to running close to winning the Premier League, however, Pochettino will surely be looking to level up on his next move and the smart money would be on United to swoop in.

Pochettino is a young and vibrant manager which echoes into his team’s play, with Spurs playing some of their best football to date under the Argentine.

Fully invested in youth

United have a long history of promoting youth players from their infamous academy into the first team. It’s been 80 years since a matchday squad did not include a youth academy product – which is a tradition our local Reds are very proud of.

Pochettino has been very proactive in bringing the younger lads through and invested in youth over buying players, this will sit well with the United board and fans alike.
