Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are thinking it may be time for the ‘Special One’ to leave Old Trafford.

Indeed, the Red Devils have vastly improved under Jose Mourinho in the 18 or so months he’s been in charge. However, recently our fans in the bar have been questioning if Mourinho is stuck in his ways, much like Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is.

The Premier League and football in general moves on every four to five years, that’s for sure. Sir Alex Ferguson was fantastic at adjusting with the times and keeping himself and the team on the sharp end of the turning point. Although Mourinho’s tactics have been questioned in recent times by many of our regulars, he has still churned out results against two of the biggest teams in the Premier League in the past three weeks.

The United faithful are desperate to get back to the DNA of the club’s style of football, and Mourinho’s ability and guidance to be reactive more than proactive, as we saw against Sevilla, seems to be causing a stir. With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at what two managers Ed Woodward should be looking at in the near future…

Maurizio Sarri

The Napoli coach is surely in hot demand this season after turning the Naples club into a high press, attacking force which is very pleasing to the eyes of many of the punters in the pub. Sarri has been in the game for a long-time and that experience is certainly paying off this season, with his team running Juventus close in Serie A and looking to win their first title in almost 30 years.

Sarri can bring back the stylish attacking football the Old Trafford fans want to see, which would be an instant crowd pleaser.

Mauricio Pochettino

No doubt Mauricio Pochettino has done an incredible job at Spurs during his time in charge there. Turning them from Europa League potentials to running close to winning the Premier League, however, Pochettino will surely be looking to level up on his next move and the smart money would be on United to swoop in.

Pochettino is a young and vibrant manager which echoes into his team’s play, with Spurs playing some of their best football to date under the Argentine.
