January move could ruin Pochettino’s ongoing quest for silverware at Tottenham

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling deflated following another uninspiring weekend for the club.

Tottenham lost further ground in their pursuit of league-leaders Manchester City this weekend after recording a 1-1 draw with struggling West Brom in the Premier League. In light of the weekend’s results, it might be time already for The Lilywhite’s faithful propping up the bar to re-assess their ambitions for the season as they sit 13 points adrift of Guardiola’s City slickers.

The Tottenham fans have been given further cause for concern this weekend aside from their shortcomings on the field, with reports emerging from Spanish media outlet DonBalon linking their midfield-maestro Christian Eriksen with a move to FC Barcelona.

And everybody involved at the club will be hoping Eriksen resists the temptation of Catalonia to help Spurs maintain their slim hopes of silverware this year.

With Tottenham’s hopes and dreams of claiming their first Premier League title of the season already in tatters after 13 matches, they will need to focus on the Champions League and the FA Cup for potential trophies.

However, without the creative spark and incisive vision of Eriksen in their side, Tottenham will have no chance of claiming an unlikely Champions League victory this season.

Although Eriksen has at times been criticised for failing to have a profound impact on proceedings throughout a 90 minute-match, there is no doubting that he has the ability and the mentality to deliver game-changing quality in crucial moments.

The great Dane is the type of player who is impossible to replace in a short period of time whether through a transfer or an internal promotion.

Simply put, Tottenham cannot afford to lose Eriksen in the January window if Pochettino wishes to maintain any hope of lifting his first trophy as Tottenham manager this season.
