Rangers: Gers ‘close’ to two potential signing announcements

Ibrox, Glasgow, Scotland, Britain - January 2, 2023. Rangers manager Michael Beale before the match.

Michael Beale says that Glasgow Rangers are ‘close’ to making ‘one or two’ signing announcements ‘in the coming days’.

The Lowdown: Kilmarnock win

Rangers earned a hard-fought 3-2 win away at Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night to keep up the pressure on league leaders Celtic at the top of the table.

Two goals from Alfredo Morelos and one from Ryan Kent ensured victory for the visitors after Danny Armstrong was sent off for the hosts just before the hour mark, in what was a game in which the Ibrox outfit were not always convincing.

Beale may now need to dip into the transfer market in order to strengthen his squad and really give himself a chance to push Celtic all the way until the end of the season.

The Latest: Two in?

Speaking to the media in his post-match press conference, Beale said (via Jonny McFarlane) that the club are ‘close’ to announcing ‘one or two’ signings in the next few days:

“We are close to one or two bits. I don’t want to put a timeline and disappoint anyone. We are close to one or two being announced in the coming days and I’m really pleased with the work everyone has done behind the scenes on that.”

The Verdict: Who could they be?

The Gers supporters will be wondering which players Beale is talking about, and one of them looks to be Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell based on reports.

As per Football Scotland, Cantwell is ‘on the verge’ of joining the Light Blues, who have ‘won the race’ for his signature.

He is set to ‘undergo a medical this weekend’ ahead of putting pen to paper on a deal, while an approach to sign Swansea City’s Morgan Whittaker has been ‘rebuffed again’, with a reported £1.5m bid for the winger being ‘kicked out’ by the Championship side.

Nonetheless, if the Teddy Bears can get both players in through the doors, then they will certainly add more squad depth that Beale can work with.

The former QPR manager will know them well having watched them in the flesh in the Championship, and would be hoping that they can make the adjustment to Scottish football like the likes of John Lundstram and Tom Lawrence have in recent times.
