Liverpool are quite thin on the ground with their centre-back options at the moment. The Reds lost Joel Matip to injury when they lost 3-1 to Borussia Dortmund in the International Champions Cup and with Dejan Lovren still on holiday after his lengthy World Cup, Joe Gomez is the man who the fans have been delighted to see partner with Virgil van Dijk.
With Matip injured, could actually see these two starting the PL campaign together https://t.co/hKIqNYrMpq

Gomez joined Liverpool back in 2015 from Charlton Athletic and he’s predominantly been deployed as a full-back for the Anfield club, however, whilst speaking in an interview for the Liverpool website, the 21-year-old claimed he hopes to grow into that position (centre-back) and that playing alongside van Dijk helps as the Dutchman is like a big brother to him.
Last night, Liverpool faced Manchester City in their second fixture in the ICC tournament. After being left disappointed by Borussia Dortmund in their opener Klopp would have been keen to get a win and gain momentum ahead of the season. That’s exactly what happened as Mo Salah and Sadio Mane completed the turn around for the Kopites after trailing to Leroy Sane’s opener. Gomez looked shaky but grew into his role at the back and the fans will be hoping the best is yet to come.
You can read the Reds’ verdict on Gomez here:
Give the lad a go good enough for England let’s see if he good enough for lfc

Gomez next to vvd for a season will be perfect for him, he’s already more composed than lovren and his passing for a cb is quality, just needs the guidance from Mr Rolls Royce

They should start. I rate Gomez over Matip

Yea…I think he is excellent. He has had a big injury and been played at both left and right back. He is now ready to be a regular CB. Hope he gets his go…
