The Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern have been discussing who their next gaffer will be in the summer, as a story in The Scottish Sun has linked them with Liverpool legend and current Liverpool U18’s coach, Steven Gerrard. The 37-year-old isn’t daunted by the size of the task at Ibrox, despite it being a significant step up from his current role.

The Ibrox club has reportedly been looking at a replacement for Pedro Caixinha for the last seven months, after sacking the Portuguese gaffer in October. The Gers will need to act quicker than they have done for the rest of the season if they’re to get the right man in time for the transfer window and the club’s pre-season plans and with Gerrard currently balancing a BT Sport punditry role and the Liverpool U18’s coaching role, they’ll need to be quick to snap him up, although talks are underway.
If the legendary scouser was to leave Liverpool for Glasgow, he’d be going head-to-head against his former Anfield boss, Brendan Rodgers against Celtic in the Old Firm. The only problem that our local Gers have hiring Stevie G is his complete lack of experience in managing a football club. Whilst the former Champions League winner has been coaching for two years since retirement from playing football, the step up from U18s to senior football could be too much, even for someone like Gerrard, at this early stage.

Another gamble when we can't afford it. If this was one year ago I'd welcome it, but we really had to be aiming for someone with experience. I hope this works out, but I'm apprehensive

Great player doesn't always make a great manager. We need someone to steady the buffs, this is too risky.

Guys have you seen the list of candidates?. I’d say EVERY ONE of them would be a major gamble. But I’d be delighted if rangers get him
