The Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern have had really quite a busy week indeed. That’s because the club moved to sign both Fred and Diogo Dalot within the space of two days as Jose Mourinho plans an assault on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.
As ever, our resident Red Devils are keen on more additions. Clearly, they have some way to go for before catching Pep Guardiola’s slick City, so those propping up our bar while clad in perhaps the most famous footballing shirt around the world are waiting with baited breath.
Well, thanks to reports from the Independent, they’ve been somewhat let down. Indeed, according to them, Mourinho is ready to shelve plans for a major upgrade in the left-back department as he looks to bring in the right kind of back-up for Romelu Lukaku.
With Luke Shaw failing to impress under Mourinho’s watch and Ashley Young playing out of position, our United locals fully expected the club to make a move. The likes of Alex Sandro were linked, though the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ is thought to have performed a U-turn on Shaw and will offer him a lifeline.
Fellow England international Young will likely continue as first choice, though our Man United-mad punters are just happy to see Mourinho reportedly giving youth a chance in the shape of Shaw.
Landlord’s Verdict:
It’s good to see Mourinho, even reportedly, changing his stance on Shaw. United invested an awful lot of money in him and the idea of seeing him given a proper chance in a United shirt will surely help get fans onside.
Needing to convince this season, it looks as if Mourinho is willing to try anything.
