With Marco Verratti reportedly a target for Manchester United, our local Red Devils fans in the Transfer Tavern are already turning their attention to what their team’s line-up could look like come next season.
The PSG is a clever midfielder who isn’t scared to put in a challenge, and would add some much needed bite to a team that is desperate to be the Premier League champions once more.
2015/16 saw a pretty dismal campaign for United with only an FA Cup win to brighten the mood, but bigger things are expected now that Louis van Gaal and his dour football have left the club.
The Old Trafford faithful are highly expectant of what new manager Jose Mourinho can do for their club, and who he can bring in and perhaps with the possible signing of Verratti the Portuguese is targeting improvements to his side’s midfield.
So who might join Verratti in the centre of the park? Our landlord brings you Mourinho’s ultimate midfield for next season……

Defensive midfielder – Nemanja Matic

The defensive midfielder came to Chelsea under Mourinho to help them win the league and did so with some great defensive displays.
Matic marshalls in front of the centre halves and breaks down attacks with his imposing presence, and would be a welcome addtition to the club’s midfield.
He’s rumoured to be keen on a move too and that may make any possible deal a bit easier to do.
Defensive midfielder – Marco Verratti

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is one of the world’s most exciting talents, and would fit in seamlessly in the United midfield.
Mourinho is the type of manager that would undoubtedly get the best out of the midfielder, and the United punters here in the Tavern admit they would be delighted with the addition of a player of the calibre of the Italian.
Central midfielder – Wayne Rooney

Rooney looks set to be a central midfielder for the remainder of his career now for both club and country.
The former Everton man has gradually become more and more withdrawn from his initial striking role, and with his good range of passing he should be able to fulfil this role to devastating effect.
Rooney won’t be relied on as much for goals now and that might just help him settle in to this new position even quicker.
Right wing – Willian

Willian has been linked to a move up North from Chelsea, and it would make sense given he was one of the few players that still seemed to want to perform in Mourinho’s last few months at the club.
Willian is a quick and clever player who would offer United a lot down the right, and make them a far more potent outfit going forward.
He’s also happy to work back though, and that’s a key trait Mourinho likes.
Left wing – Anthony Martial

Martial was a key player in any United success last year and arguably one of the best signings of the season.
Although young he showed no fear and quickly settled in at the club before going on to show what kind of player he could be in the future.
There are shades of Thierry Henry about Martial as he cuts in from the left, and with a season at the club under his belt he should now kick on to even better performances.
