A club in the USA are reportedly plotting a move to sign Kai Kennedy from Glasgow Rangers this summer.
The Lowdown: Showed promise
Kennedy showed a lot of promise in his early years at Rangers, with former Inverness Caledonian Thistle boss John Robertson describing the winger as a ‘crowd pleaser’ and even likening him to Ibrox legends Willie Johnston and Davie Cooper.
His former team-mate at Dunfermline, Rhys Breen, has also hailed Kennedy as a ‘scary’ talent, but the 20-year-old has been loaned out five times in total by Rangers, with the latest being to Falkirk this season.
The Latest: Summer exit?
As per Football Insider, USA side Memphis 901 are plotting a summer move for Kennedy, after failing in their bid to sign him in the January transfer window.
Kennedy’s contract at the Gers expires this summer, meaning that he can leave as a free agent once his loan deal at Falkirk expires.
The Verdict: Time to go
Unfortunately for Kennedy, with five loan spells away and only one senior appearance made, it is time for him to leave the Light Blues.
At 20 years of age, he needs to find a club that will offer him regular game time, and it looks like he will not get that if he stays.
It is a shame given the promise that he has shown in the past, but Kennedy needs to move on for the sake of his career.
