Keep or axe? Mourinho needs to make a major decision on these 3 Man Utd stars

Manchester United got back to winning ways in the league this weekend after beating struggling Middlesbrough 3-1 at the Riverside, much to the delight of the Red Devils here in the Transfer Tavern!

In what’s been a good week of recovery following the FA Cup defeat to Chelsea, United have got through potentially tricky fixtures against FC Rostov in Europe and now against Middlesbrough, who sacked manager Aitor Karanka earlier last week.

And with a busy couple of weeks ahead both domestically and in the Europa League, these will be testing times for manager Jose Mourinho, who needs to bring silverware back to Old Trafford as quickly as possible.

There are some seriously passionate United punters here in the pub and they’re praying the Special One has something up his sleeve, with just a handful of months left of the current campaign.

But looking ahead, it’s set to be a busy summer for the Portuguese manager too, who has plenty to think about when it comes to the future’s of some of his biggest players at the club.

So with that in mind, here’s THREE United stars that Mourinho really needs to make a decision on this summer…

AXE: Wayne Rooney

Sadly for even the biggest of Wayne Rooney fans here in the pub, his future at Old Trafford is looking increasingly unclear as the months go by.

He’s been benched for the majority of United’s games post-Christmas and he’s a man whose legacy at the club looks set to come to an end this summer.

He’d command a very respectable transfer fee indeed and it’s probably for the best that United press ahead with a sale and recoup as much money for one of the best players we’ve seen at Old Trafford over the past decade.

KEEP: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

You’ll be hard-pressed to find many Manchester United fans that wouldn’t want to see the ever-enigmatic Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the frontline again next season.

The Swede has carried the side at times this season and all of the United punters lining the bar want to see him remain at the club next season, even if it is just for one more year.

A move to China or America in the future looks written in the stars but there’s no doubting the Swede can cut it at the top for one more season at least.

KEEP: Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Timothy Fosu-Mensah was one of the breakout stars under former manager Louis van Gaal and United fans here in the pub were extremely excited to see an emerging young player get into the first-team and perform very well.

But this season has been far quieter for the Dutchman, who has been restricted to U23 appearances under Jose Mourinho.

But there’s still and overwhelming feeling here in the Transfer Tavern that he’s definitely a player for the future, and one that could make a massive first-team regular in the future.

Certainly one to keep, despite a quieter campaign this time around.
