Palace have been linked with a whole host of names since the 47-year-old’s arrival, in particular from the Eredivisie, yet incomings won’t be the only area of focus for the Eagles’ newly-appointed manager.

When Wickham left Ipswich as a teenager to join Sunderland, he was dubbed as one of the most enticing English prospects, preordained for greatness.

However, his career hasn’t progressed as many would have expected and the Englishman has failed to reach double figures in a season throughout the entirety of his professional career.

At the age of 24, many would expect the striker to begin showing his best form, yet injury serves as yet another hindrance to his development.

While many areas of Wickham’s play require refinements such as his ball retention and passing, it is easy to disregard his contributions.

His involvement in Sunderland’s great escape in 2013/14 adequately demonstrates how crucial his contribution can prove to be.

Bakary Sako

This is a player who’s been left to regress on the periphery of Crystal Palace’s first-team.

The 29-year-old was Wolves’ best player when he completed the move to South London, scoring a magnificent tally of 38 goals in 124 games.

Renowned for his adroit dribbling ability and threatening long-range efforts, it appeared that Palace had signed a quality winger.

However, his career hasn’t progressed in accordance with the club’s intentions.

Having scored a disappointing total of two goals in 23 appearances in the 2015/16 season, Sako only managed to make eight appearances for the club last season, seven of which were substitute appearances in the league.

While it’s vitally important to acknowledge that injuries have stemmed his development, the Mali international is of an age where he should reach the heights of his footballing prowess.
