As quoted by Omnisport (via AOL), Emre Can has said he is ready to commit his long term future to Liverpool and dreams of winning the title with the club, something our resident Reds fans here in the Transfer Tavern can all related to.
The Anfield club have not won the league since 1990 but are currently top of the table, after they beat Watford 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Many feel that because of results like that they’ll be right in contention all the way into May this season and Can certainly hopes that comes to pass.
The German said: “There’s a long, long way to go [before the title is won.] We have to look not to tomorrow but to today. We can dream. Everybody can dream but you have to see the truth.”
The former Bayer Leverkusen man who was signed by Brendan Rodgers in 2014 also confirmed talks over a new contract were going well:
“Yes, the club have spoken to my agent. The talks are going very good. I have one-and-a-half years left. I am still under contract and it is my agent’s work [to sort it out].”
Can has returned to Liverpool’s midfield after an injury earlier this season and has scored twice in his last two games against the Hornets and Crystal Palace respectively.
His return has seen Georginio Wijnaldum drop to the bench to make way.
Our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern has high hopes for Emre Can, and thinks he’s a key player for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.
