Liverpool have had a great week, which has come as a surprise to the fans in the Transfer Tavern. They’ve struggled this season, but a win against Maribor on Wednesday has put them in a very good place in the Champions League, whilst a win against Huddersfield last weekend suggests that their Premier League form could be about to turnaround too. However, it’s not all good news for the Reds.
Indeed, Jurgen Klopp’s latest fitness update has not gone down well in the pub, with the German confirming (via Ben Dinnery on Twitter) that midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has been ruled out of their upcoming clash with West Ham.

It’s an important game for a number of reasons for Liverpool. Another win will put recent poor form to the back of the mind, whilst heading into the impending international break on the back of a win will certainly offer optimism ahead of their return. A good result, then, is absolutely crucial – and it will be more difficult to do that without Wijnaldum.
The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern would like to see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain come in instead.
Landlord’s Verdict
Wijnaldum has been important for Liverpool this season, and so Klopp has a big decision on his hands.
He does have choices, though, with the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and even Marko Grujic certainly in contention. Regardless, though, it would have been far better to have the option to call on Wijnaldum.
