With Liverpool back in the Champions League for the 2017/18 season, Jurgen Klopp is just getting started with the rejuvenation of his Liverpool team.

With Mohamed Salah bolstering the Reds’ attack and more signings to in the pipeline, our landlord is expecting that Liverpool’s squad will be needed in its entirety to deal with their incoming fixtures ahead of next season.

One way that Klopp may choose to deal with the extra fixtures is by unleashing some of the younger members of his squad at some point during the season. Whilst this is always a risky idea, it should be noted that Liverpool possess one of the best academies in England and this was utilised by Klopp at certain points last season, especially in the EFL Cup.

The Liverpool fans in the Tavern agree that it may be wise for Klopp to use some of the many fixtures his side will play this season to test out some of the young players and are excited at some of the prospects that are in their youth set up. They feel that some of these youngsters should even get a chance in pre-season so that they can hit the regular season hard when it comes around.

With that said, the Reds’ in the Tavern certainly know their stuff and they have outlined here the two hidden gems that Klopp should unleash in pre-season…

Joe Gomez

The 20-year-old is back to full fitness following an injury-plagued two years at Anfield and our landlord believes that this season may well be a vital one in the career of the former Charlton Athletic defender.

Gomez made an impressive start for Brendan Rodgers when he signed in 2015 as an eighteen-year-old but he has struggled to regain full fitness since then and will be looking to use pre-season to impress Klopp.

There is no doubt within the Liverpool fans in the Tavern that Gomez has talent, he just needs game time and pre-season may be the perfect time to give him just that.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

The 18-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2016/17 with a memorable debut against Manchester United at Old Trafford and the Liverpool fans in the Tavern would like to see the young right back really push Nathaniel Clyne for his place this season.

Alexander-Arnold’s strengths are certainly in his attacking play but our landlord has noted that an improvement is needed defensively if he is to play regular football at Anfield in this coming season. However, with that said, it may be worth Klopp looking at the young Englishman in pre-season in order to gauge if he is ready for more game time.
