The Spurs fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still reeling from the defeat to Juventus in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men came very close to reaching the quarter-finals this season, but another lapse in concentration saw the Old Lady come back from being a goal down to secure their passage through. Tottenham’s problem this season has been their concentration levels, which we have seen twice against the Italian champions, as they bagged two quickfire goals in both legs.

If Tottenham harbour any hopes of progressing further next season, then a couple of top European players need to be drafted in over the course of the summer. Indeed, there’s so much to shout about right now, why not spend a little bit extra and bring in what would be the icing on the cake?

Our regular Lillywhites in the bar think that Pochettino needs to become a little more ruthless in the transfer market and within his squad to truly start to expand this teams potential. With that in mind, our landlord has been taking a look at two players that could transform Spurs in the Champions League next season…

Ciro Immobile

The Italian is having a great season so far for Lazio, with him averaging a goal a game. Spurs desperately need a different option to Harry Kane for when a game isn’t going their way, and having a 30 something striker on the bench isn’t going to cut it in the big time of the Champions League.

Immobile would bring a wealth of experience with him and a much-needed source of competition for Kane to stop him from being so complacent.

Nabil Fekir

The Lyon midfielder is one of the top performers in Europe this season, he has helped Lyon compete in the French Ligue 1 with his goals and assists.

Nabil Fekir is somewhat under the radar so far this season after a big injury last season and there will be no doubt around clubs coming in for him in the summer. Pochettino could steal a march on his competition and start the bidding war early, giving Tottenham that sprinkle of stardust.
