Le Mans have announced to L’Equipe that they have agreed a deal to sign Swiss international midfielder Almen Abdi from Swiss champions FC Zurich. Abdi had reportedly agreed to join Udinese when his contract expires at the end of this season but the midfielder has backed out of the deal and is expected to arrive in France at the beginning of January to embark in a new chapter in his career.
Abdi has spent his entire playing career to date with Zurich, having made 104 appearances for the club and scored 27 goals over six and a half years after breaking into the first team at a mere 16 years old.
Abdi is an attacking midfielder who controls the ball well with both feet, incisive passing skills and great finishing as his record of over 1 goal per 4 games shows. Abdi scored nineteen league goals last season and was one of the standout players of the Swiss league but he has never planned to stay in Switzerland, having once revealed to IMScouting
“My dream is to play abroad”
And now that dream is ready to be achieved as Le Mans intend to bring the midfielder to Ligue 1 to see if he can prove a success out of his homeland. Abdi hasn’t had the best of starts this season but his previous seasons showings show what he’s capable of and Le Mans will hope he can reach that level of form for them.
