Sir Alex Ferguson is an iconic figure in football. How many managers have not only survived but continuously excelled in the ‘the modern era’? The list is shorter than a short one. The game may have changed but the Manchester United boss has seen off all comers.

Rio Ferdinand saluted Ferguson’s achievement with the tweet: “The boss has been at Man Utd #26Years today. Colossal.” Well said.

The Manchester  United Official site said of the actual statue by sculptor Philip Jackson, which will be revealed on Friday, November 23 :

”It will be placed in a prominent position near the entrance to the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand – formerly the North Stand which was renamed in his honour last year. ‘The club will also be unveiling new artwork and installations in the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand concourses which will illustrate the manager’s achievements throughout his United career.”

The real statue will join those of Sir Matt Busby, George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton.

Well now, when it comes to football, one man has for many years been the most noticeable, the most controversial, and occasionally the most successful blogger this country has ever produced. His pithy words and abrasive style make him as famous off the pitch as he is on it. This man is Escapini. "I love football. Football she's a cruel mistress. She's, she's more than a mistress. She's a wife, she's a mother, she's a daughter, she's an errant child. She's a… she's a… she can make you laugh, she make you cry. She can bring tears me eyes. She can bring blood to me shoulders. She can bring a kettle to the boil." "Cause football is about nothing, unless it's about something and what it is about, is football."
