As you’ve probably heard, there are a fair few angry Leeds fans after Saturday. The Whites hosted Brentford at Elland Road and after The Bees were given a penalty for what looked a stonewall foul from Bailey Peacock-Farrell on Ollie Watkins. However, on second viewing it appears Watkins dived to win it. Now, though and here on The YEP website, Dermot Gallagher has agreed with the decision.

The game had a number of questionable moments. The decision to let Moses Odubajo stay on the pitch despite committing a reckless challenge whilst on a booking is one of them, along with the penalty and the decision to send off Luke Ayling for a similar offence to Odubaju when he was on a yellow card. However, Gallagher, whilst appearing on Sky Sports’ ref watch, said that any official would have given the Watkins penalty.
This statement from Gallagher has left a number of Leeds fans fuming at the decision and at both Jeremy Simpson and Dermot Gallagher. Whilst there is definite contact between Watkins and Peacock-Farrell, the fact that the Brentford man had started his fall well before the contact was made had left the Leeds fans questioning the integrity of the referee and wondering why it always seems to be at Elland Road where the decisions are being made incorrectly.

Oh really, how embarrassing for him. Unfortunately, it is not surprising that we are seeing a closing of ranks. It says more about his loyalty to his profession that it does about his integrity.

The Whites are fuming that Gallagher has stood by Simpson and will be hoping that they don’t have the same referee for any more of their games this season.
