Loads of Leeds United supporters have been reacting on social media after the Elland Road outfit announced that Conor Shaughnessy has joined League Two side Mansfield Town on a season-long loan deal.
The Irishman broke into the Leeds first-team on the opening day of the 2017/18 season away to Bolton Wanderers, but has seen chances of further senior minutes hard to come by.
Shaughnessy particularly struggled to make an impression on Marcelo Bielsa, with the Argentine only awarding the 23-year-old one first-team appearance lasting 45 minutes during their time together (TransferMarkt), before the Galway-born defender joined Heart of Midlothian on loan in the winter.
Bielsa continued to overlook the former Reading youngster during the West Yorkshire outfit’s pre-season schedule, and he now joins Mansfield on loan as they strive for better results having won once in their opening six league games while conceding eight goals.
At 23, Shaughnessy feels he needs to be playing regular football for the sake of his career and sees a season in League Two as the perfect place to obtain minutes on the field.
“This is an important stage of my career and feels like the right move for me,” he said, via quotes by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“I need to play games, get experience under my belt and I think this is the perfect place for me to do that.
“I’m heading into this loan move with a real positive mindset, hoping to make the most of it and looking to play as many games as possible.”
Shaughnessy will have one year remaining on his Leeds United contract upon his return to the West Yorkshire outfit next summer.

Shame it wasn’t permanent rudest arrogant player I have ever come across.

What happened to this kid? 2 seasons ago he looked very capable of playing in the championship. Never saw him have a bad game. Now he’s off playing in league two. Mental.
