A selection of Leeds United supporters have been replying to a post on the official Whites Twitter feed, after the Elland Road natives shared that Ezgjan Alioski had earned his latest call-up to the North Macedonia squad for their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Alioski has been a regular for his country since May 2016 (TransferMarkt), having been omitted from the team for the previous year after three successive unused substitute appearances in qualifying ties for the previous international UEFA competition.
Only twice has the Prilep-born left-back failed to appear on the international stage since his return to the squad, and only thrice has he failed to play out the full ninety minutes – each time coming off as a substitute beyond the 80th minute.
Should the 27-year-old maintain his current run of appearances against Israel and Latvia, he will be in line for his 29th and 30th international caps respectively, while a win against Israel would move North Macedonia level with Andi Herzog’s Blue and Whites on seven points in Group G.
Like with his country, Alioski has been one of the more regularly utilised options at club level with Leeds, making appearances in four of the Whites’ five opening Championship fixtures, and starting the First Round Carabao Cup win over Salford City (TransferMarkt).
Marcelo Bielsa opted to bench the defender for the midweek EFL Cup exit to Stoke City, however, despite Alioski scoring the second goal as the Whites beat the Potters 3-0 in the league encounter just four days prior – his first goal of the campaign in any competition.
Leeds supporters are not surprised to see Alioski earn another call-up to Igor Angelovski’s side, though, as many have noted that he is North Macedonia’s best player and just hope he returns from international duty unscathed.
