Leeds: Fabrizio Romano shares Whites’ transfer plans

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has shared what could be in store at Leeds United for the remainder of the transfer window.

The lowdown: Summer so far

The Whites have been amongst the busiest clubs in the Premier League during the summer market, with both outgoings and incomings keeping Director of Football Victor Orta busy at Thorp Arch.

Both Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips moved onto pastures new having played key roles in the Yorkshire club’s survival last season, whilst influential attacker Jack Harrison continues to be heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United.

Meanwhile, Jesse March has attempted to cover all bases and has strengthened the ranks with the additions of Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams, Marc Roca, Rasmus Kristensen, Darko Gyabi and Luis Sinisterra.

Latest Leeds United news!

Despite the already overused revolving door at Elland Road, one in the know onlooker has suggested that Orta may be looking to Andrea Radrizzani to sanction yet more transfers before the end of the window…

The latest: ‘The idea at Leeds is…’

Speaking to Give Me Sport, transfer guru Romano has claimed that Marsch will definitely look to land a striker whether even if they miss out on Charles De Ketelaere.

He said: “The idea at Leeds is to keep the current squad and to add a striker.

“They wanted [Charles] De Ketelaere from Club Brugge, but he’s now getting closer towards AC Milan so they want a striker and to keep their current team.”

Leeds fans, do you remember who scored your first goal of the 21/22 season?

The verdict: Striker needed

After what was an injury-ravaged campaign for Patrick Bamford, it’s no surprise that Leeds would be seeking further reinforcements in the central attacking areas, even after the capture of talented youngster Sonny Perkins.

Outside of the previously talismanic 28-year-old, Marsch only had misfiring duo Rodrigo and Tyler Roberts at his disposal as senior frontmen, the latter of whom has already joined QPR for the duration of the 2022/23 campaign.

Talented youth prospects Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood both proved to be mature beyond their years with their respective displays, however, neither have shown form that suggests they could be relied upon to lead the line throughout a 38-match Premier League season.

Whilst there remains hope De Ketelaere will arrive in Yorkshire, AC Milan are certainly the frontrunners and as such, Orta and co may need to turn to alternative targets. Among those linked with making the move to Elland Road are Paris Saint-Germain frontman Arnaud Kalimuendo and Chelsea starlet Armando Broja, both of whom present viable options if available.

Given this fresh update from Romano, it seems certain that Elland Road will continue to be a hive of activity until one of these centre-forward targets signs on the dotted line.
