Leeds: Tim Thornton reacts to Rodrigo injury

Leeds United's Rodrigo Moreno

Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton has been reacting to the injury setback regarding Leeds United forward Rodrigo ahead of this afternoon’s meeting with Brentford.

The Lowdown: Three to four weeks

Rodrigo made a brilliant start to the campaign with four goals and an assist in the first three Premier League fixtures. However, the Spaniard now faces a three-to-four-week stint in the sidelines after injuring his shoulder in Tuesday’s draw with Everton.

The injury to the 31-year-old left Leeds officials in a last-minute hurry to sign a new senior forward, ending up with Wilfried Gnonto after failed moves for Hwang Hee-chan, Cody Gakpo and Bamba Dieng.

The Latest: Thornton’s comments

Talking to GiveMeSport in a story shared on Saturday morning, hours before kick-off, Thornton labelled the injury as a ‘big blow’ and said it has come at the worst possible time for the player following his fine start to the season.

Happy with Leeds' summer business?

Yes, just about!

Yes, just about!

Not really!

Not really!

“He’s been in great form, and he’s been a real leader in the team as well, so it’s a big blow. It’s probably the worst possible timing for him because this is the best form that he’s shown since arriving at Leeds.

“Marsch actually talked him up last week and he said he thinks he’s got all the attributes to become one of the best players in the world.”

The Verdict: Nightmare…

Rodrigo looks set to out until after the international break, meaning he’ll miss the next three fixtures, starting today.

As Thornton mentions, it is a ‘big blow’ for the player and the team, with Jesse Marsch now set to rely on Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt, who have both already had injury concerns of their own this season.

Hopefully, the pair will remain fit for the foreseeable, otherwise, Leeds could find themselves in real trouble in the final third following a promising start to the campaign.
