If you were to tell any Leeds United fan at the start of the season that they would clinch a play-off position with five games left to play in the Champi0nship, they would have understandably have been delighted.
Yet given the situation that the Whites currently find themselves in, a top-six finish is the last things on the minds of the club’s players as the prospect of automatic promotion has is now an extremely realistic prospect.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side secured a vital 2-0 victory at Preston North End on Tuesday which saw them put the pressure on Sheffield United ahead of their clash with Birmingham City last night.
Despite taking the lead at St Andrew’s, the Blades were pegged back by the Blues and had to settle for a draw, a result which allowed Leeds to maintain their second-place position in the league standings.
Following the culmination of the latest round of fixtures, the Whites’ victory means that they have mathematically guaranteed a top-six finish and so if they do miss out to United in May, they will have another chance of securing promotion.
Responding to the news on Twitter, these Leeds supporters expressed their concern about the prospect of having to compete in the play-offs this season.
