The Leeds fans in the Transfer Tavern will be relieved to hear that their new star chose them over a potential move to Italy.
A report from the Yorkshire Evening Post has revealed that Leeds United’s new star Jay-Roy Grot could have signed for Serie A club Fiorentina prior to his move to Elland Road.
The 19-year-old forward put pen to paper on a three-year deal at the Championship club two weeks ago amidst, putting a stop to the serious interest from the Serie A club.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Grot said:
“They (Fiorentina) were interested but they didn’t get an offer to NEC”
The Dutch forward, who can play up front or on the wing, made his debut for Thomas Christiansen’s side in their 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest.
Leeds return to action this weekend as they host Nigel Clough’s Burton Albion.
The Landlord’s Verdict
Whilst Fiorentina isn’t the biggest club in Italy, they still play in their respective top flight and managed an eighth-place finish last season.
For Leeds to pick him up tells our landlord two things.
One, Jay-Roy Grot is the sort of player who values first team football over a potential bigger move and two, Leeds United are growing as a club.
The landlord expects United to be back into the top flight within the next few seasons if not next season with the work of Andreas Radrizzani becoming more and more present as the days go on.
